Harry Lime Theme; "The Third Man" movie/Anton Karas performed by Jon England

Always a favorite of mine, this (originally) haunting theme by Anton Karas, appealed to me as an upbeat Ooompah-style fun tune to arrange and perform. I use my 'carnival'-style piano to put across the honky-tonk nature of the arrangment ... have fun trying to count all of the piano 'keys'! Starring Orson Welles, Trevor Howard, Alida Vali and Joseph Cotton, the cinematic tale is a dark and desperate picture of post-war Vienna. The haunting tune, originally and memorably performed on the zither fits the mood perfectly as the tension mounts and lives double-cross. Anton Karas reputedly took all the royalty income from the worldwide performances of this tune and spent it on his friends and other needy folk paying for food and other forms of sustenance they needed. The money didn't last forever and neither did he. An intriguing character if ever there was one - and a great story. England v Wales (6-0)

A scintilating display of attacking football from the boys. Wales were simply no match for England's fluid passing, clinical finishing and movement off the ball. A scrappy first goal settled the nerves early on, and from there England found their rhythm as they probed Wales in all areas of the pitch. A sublime volley from Martin Downes from a corner made it 2-0 inside 15mins as England looked to capitalise on Wales's shaky start. Wales did have a chance to pull one back in the second half, as they hit the post from a decent effort, only to see the ball come straight back out and Matt Willmott sent a high ball up front, as Paul ran through to beat the offside trap, he opportunistically lobbed the oncoming Wales goal keeper from 25 yards to make it 3-0. Shortly before half-time England won a free kick out side the box after Pants had been fouled and gracefully fell to the floor. Paul placed the ball down and with great technique, curved the ball round the Wales wall to make it 4-0 Wales heads' seemed to drop even further and tension seemed to grow with some tough tackles in the centre of the field, but the game never seemed to boil over which was a credit to both teams. England's fifth goal came mid way through the second half. Wales conceded a corner and as Glen's cross came in, they failed to fully clear their lines and it fell to Rob who was waiting outside the box. His shot sailed through the everyone and gave the keeper no chance as it flew into the top corner ...
