EXERCISES FOR ALL SEASONS: 11 Smiles Chi Kung

"11 Smiles" chi kung, right side view - 12/30/10 (Winter) The very first exercise I do in the morning, as soon as my feet step onto the rug near my bed, and I stand upright, is my "11 Smiles" routine. It's a very beneficial exercise, which makes me say "hello" to all my major internal organs. It also makes me breathe through each major area of my body. It's like doing a total body scan - - a mental X-ray, or MRI - - starting from the top of my head (brain), and scanning down all the way to the bottom of my feet, to make sure everything is in working order, feels right, energy is moving OK through all these areas. It only takes about a minute to do, as long as it takes to breathe in and out 13 times. During each inhalation, I imagine smiling energy entering the area of my body I am focusing upon, and smiling upon. As if the external universe is smiling into my body. During each exhalation, I imagine that particular area of my body exhales, and beams its smiling energy out into the universe. As if a "smiley face" appears on that internal organ, and it starts sending smiling energy out of itself. Just like air enters and exits my body with each breath, smiling energy enters and exits each area of my body with each breath. My mind is present in every part of my body, so if my mind smiles in a certain area of my body, that part of my body also begins smiling. If I smile into my heart, I imagine my heart is smiling, and sending that smiling energy outward, in all directions ...
